Sexypants is Back! Benjamin Walker to Star Opposite Scarlett Johansson in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Benjamin Walker will star as Brick in the forthcoming revival of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof alongside previously announced Tony winner Scarlett Johansson as Maggie. The cast will also include Ciaran Hinds as Big Daddy and Tony and Emmy Award winner Debra Monk as Big Mama. Directed by Rob Ashford, performances of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic will begin December 18 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Opening night is set for January 17.

Set in the Mississippi Delta, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is the story of Brick (Walker) and his wife Maggie (Johansson), who are celebrating the 65th birthday of Brick’s father, Big Daddy Pollitt (Hinds). Big Daddy is bothered by the rocky relationship between his beloved son Brick, an aging football hero who has taken up drinking, and his beautiful and feisty wife Maggie. As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of Southern Gentility slips away as unpleasant truths emerge. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof originally opened on Broadway at the Morosco Theatre on March 24, 1955, starring Barbara Bel Geddes as Maggie and Ben Gazzara as Brick. After winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the play has been revived on Broadway four times, including a 2003 production starring Ashley Judd and Jason Patrick. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was most recently revived in 2008, starring James Earl Jones, Anika Noni Rose, Terrence Howard and Phylicia Rashad.

Walker has appeared on Broadway in Inherit the Wind, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. His film and TV credits include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Flags of Our Fathers, Kinsey and The War Boys.

Hinds’ Broadway credits include The Seafarer and Closer. He recently starred on the TV series Political Animals. His additional film and TV appearances include Game of Thrones, Munich, Road to Perdition, There Will Be Blood and The Debt.

Monk won a Tony for Redwood Curtain, and earned nominations for Curtains, Steel Pier and Picnic. Her additional Broadway credits include Reckless, Thou Shalt Not, Ah, Wilderness! Chicago, Company, Nick & Nora, Prelude to a Kiss and Pump Boys and Dinettes, which she also wrote and conceived. Her film and TV credits include The Devil’s Advocate, The Bridges of Madison County, The Savages, Damages, Grey’s Anatomy and Glee.
